Angel by the wings

Advocates for its resuscitation, Blumarine creative director Nicola Brognano appears to be able to uncover new ways each season to offer a window of creativity and uniqueness to the fashion industry, leaving us speechless, once again.

Every collection that Nicola Brognano curates has a distinct concept, so we can always count on her to find new methods to entice us. Saints who have turned in what appears to be “sensual sinners” are in style for Spring/Summer 2024, showcasing a bright sense of summer. From the uplifting pop-house music to the minimalist décor of the runway, accompanied with  spotlight like lighting contrasts with intricate and flamboyant designs, the latest Blumarine girl is created by it; she resembles a whimsical butterfly drawn to the celestial chaos in a cloud of gold.

The collection features alluring traditional shapes that are explained by the brand’s codes, such as dramatically draped tunics that wrap the body and are embellished with playful ribbons and sashes. Light georgette blouses are flowy and unrestricted into raw-hemmed ribbons that cascade.

Blumarine Spring/Summer Collection 2024

Angels with huge wings, glistening with gold, and glowing whites, glide down the catwalk. Heaven arrived on stage in a chic fantasy where sensuality is elegantly and freely conveyed through ethereal textiles. Delivered are pieces splattered with tulle, sequins, and sparkling mesh. Soft leather Capri pants that are perfect for summer are fastened with matching butterfly buckles and silver chains.

Naturally, the butterfly holds great symbolic meaning in the collection. It appears as a motif on minidresses, briefs, bustiers, and accessories like rubber mini bags created in partnership with FORBITHCHES x Blumarine.

Jerseys compliment catsuits, and cutouts of swirling butterflies accentuate the chosen hosiery. There are sensual bustiers, gorgeous corsets, and incredibly short gowns on display. Color offerings narrate a tale of transformation: from a fallen angel dripping with gold and white to a more sinister, thought-provoking being dressed in black and nude hues. My personal favourite, the showstopper; A diaphanous garment made by adorning clear PVC (plastic polyvinyl chloride) with crystals or rhinestones in matte resin.

Finally, we are able to see that the Spring/Summer 2024 collection from Blumarine subtly deviates from its recognizable Y2K design, while igniting the inner angel-core aesthetic in all of us.
